Having worked for HP for a little while and based on all their presentations, facts, etc. on how refill kits are inferior and cause problems and will void warranty I never considered buying any of these kits…until now, when I realized I was paying $35 every few months just for printing out term papers and stuff. I rarely print out pictures. So I ordered a kit for $20 which comes with everything you need to refill the kit along with 8oz. of Pigmented Black Ink (there are different types of ink for each manufacturer). To put those 8oz into perspective, most HP black ink cartridges come with 19ml of ink, this bottle contains 236ml of ink. It takes about 35 minutes for the whole process. About 5 – 10 minutes for the actual refilling of the ink and the rest of the time is just letting the cartridge rest on some newspaper so the air pressure stabilizes and whatever excess pressure may leak out, along with some ink. After that, pop it in and you’re pretty much set to go. I printed out text which is indifferent from using stock-HP-ink and a picture which is damn near the equivalent of stock ink. Conclusion, HP fucks people big time with the price of ink, it’s how they make money; printers are usually sold near or at cost levels. Replacement ink, when bought from a decent retailer who sells the right type of ink for your printer/cartridge, can work very well for about 80% of your printing needs. You can always keep a stock-cartridge for high quality photo pictures. 4 1/2 out of 5.
