Sore throat or cough? Try this Chinese herbal remedy.

Tis the season for colds, sore throats and coughs. Once you’ve given up on chewing airborne tablets as candy and eating extra gummy bear vitamins for adults (yes, that’s a thing) there is a great alternative for helping to bring some relief to your throat as your body sorts out the foreign invaders.

Boat Sterculia Seeds, aka Malva Nuts, aka Pang Da Hai.

I’ve also attached a handwritten description/label of the seeds since most people who sell them (in Chinatown) will only know them by that name.

They look like dried nuts/seeds, and they run about fifty cents a pop. Brewing a cup of tea with them is one of the best options for symptom relief that I’ve found for a soar throat or helping to stifle a persistent cough.

There are some pictures of them them below in seed format, and then in their weird, expanded jelly fish/coral like, appearance in hot water. I doubt people would try, but don’t eat them: just drink the tea.

Give them a go if you find yourself stuck with a cold and let me know your results!
