Follow the leader

I left in a hurry earlier today for my Spanish class, which I was getting late for and decided to take the midtown tunnel since it’s the quickest way to downtown…

As I approached the EzPass toll booth there was an unusual amount of traffic around me and I wondered what was up. After passing through the toll I noticed that all the traffic in front of me was merging into the right lane (midtown tunnel has 2 lanes). The left lane that everyone seemed to be avoiding didn’t have anything blocking it and the light above the tunnel was green which usually indicates that it’s fine to use. After thinking about being the only one to go in that lane I decided at the last possible moment to squeeze into the traffic with everyone else and merge into the right lane. After about 30 seconds a cop came out and started forcing people to use the left lane.

What the freak?! Some momo must’ve merged over for whatever reason, causing another to merge and another until everyone just assumed that something was wrong and that they had to go into the right lane, myself included. What does say about me or worse the people who came before me who perhaps didn’t even think to question why everyone was going into the right lane?
