I went to a mall recently with Austen and her rents and offered to take care of her for a couple hours while they did their thing. As I aimlessly strolled through the mall and into various stores I received an unusually large amount of smiles/attention from women and I have a feeling that it wasn’t just because of my stunning good looks this time, although it’s very likely. At some stores I went to I was even told what I cute baby I had, how young a father I was and how adorable the whole thing was. Apparently most of the people thought Austen was my daughter. I often corrected them but my brother thought it would’ve been more interesting to play along or even get creative with something like: “Yeah, she’s my 2nd with the ex-wife”.
I also put on a little show in Nordstrom by the benches near one of the entrances when I had to take her out of her stroller to feed her then console her for not feeding her sooner and then rocking her to sleep and getting her back in the stroller. Some of the unusually loud-whispers I heard from a few people sitting across from me during the process were: “He’s too young to be her father” & “That poor girl”.
Suffice to say that Austen and her Chacha [Cha-Cha: Punjabi for ‘Uncle’] are going to be making more frequent trips to the mall. Unfortunately that also means I’m going to be spending a lot of a money too since I can’t seem to go to the mall now without having to buy her some clothes/things a small price to pay for being able to manipulate a 4-month old baby into getting me some phone numbers.
