Note: I didn’t take a billion pictures so bare with me. I don’t remember the names of all the places we went to. The trip will be broken up into a few separate posts to keep things organized.
I got into San Antonio on July 27th around 11pm after a bunch of delays thanks to some storm system that was passing through. David, Vanessa and Julisa were all there to welcome me at the airport. As I came down the escalator into the baggage-pickup area and saw David my first thoughts were of how similar he looked to that of the last time I saw him; I wondered for a moment how much, if at all, I had changed in appearance since HS.
After being ridiculed for checking my bag instead of carrying it on and falsely accused of having hot-pink luggage we made a quick stop at Whataburger for food, I was starving, and headed right for one of Vanessas favorite bars along the riverwalk. The ice, if any present, was broken between Vanessa and myself with a generously sized shot of tequila and vodka respectively. Julisa and I had previously met when she came to NY for a little under a week about a month ago. After a short while it was as if we all knew each other for years and no it wasnt just the booze, I think. I am certain though that the liquor played some part in bringing up the fact that David taught me how to moonwalk back in HS. Vanessa made many attempts at trying to get a demonstration out of David but they all went unanswered.
After singing along to one-too-many hits from the late 80s and tracking down our drunken waitress we took care of the bill and headed out. I couldnt have thought of a better way to kick off my stay in TX. Well, I can think of one other way which wouldve been better but finding 3 strippers, 5 clowns and a magician on such short notice wouldve been damn near impossible.
