…Taste, don’t swallow.
Interesting quote from The Devil’s Advocate. Al Pacino (The Devil) is preaching to his son about God and his various cruelties. It may seem strange at first but think about it and after a while you just might find yourself nodding your head in agreement. I’m not trying to say that God is a sadist, which the movie implies, or anything of that sort but it does seem true of nature; however you want to view or define it.
I often find myself in a predicament where I want something but I can’t have it for one of a number of reasons. That’s not to say that my goals are unrealistic or impossible, it’s quite the opposite since most of them are usually within an arm’s length of reach. Consequence is the leading culprit.
Causation, it turns out, is a bitch. OK, perhaps that’s a bit unfair but it’s very capable of being so when it wants to be. Granted that anything you do, assuming you buy into the philosophy, will have some effect in return but as of late it seems that whatever it is that I want, and do, has some negative effect. Perhaps ‘negative effect’ isn’t the best way to describe it. Let’s go with ‘opportunity cost’ instead.
Bummer. After all that it boils down to the painfully obvious: You can usually get what you’re looking for but odds are it’s going to come with a catch or two. From there it’s a question of whether it’s worth the consequences. Stupid consequences.
