“America (The Book) A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction” by Jon Stewart, Ben Karlin and David Javerbaum is without a doubt one of the funniest political books ever written! You may ask “How many political books have you read to which you can fairly compare this one to and assign that great title?” but rest assured that I’ve read quiet a few: Federalist Papers, Anti-Federalist Papers, Locke’s 2nd Treatise…, Machiavelli, Dahl, Rawls…and they all get the crap kicked out of them, by this book, in the “Funny” department! Don’t get me started on Calhoun…worst–comedy–ever! Concurrent majority this, concurrent majority that—Whatever guy, let it go and move on!
Anyway, back to the book. I promise that if you buy it you will literally laugh out loud while reading it. You won’t catch many theories or arguments pro/con the constitution but you will find lots of comical criticisms and satire of the Unites States and it’s history of democracy. Anyone who is anyone in our political past is mentioned in one way or another and is poked at every which way. This review probably doesnt do justice to the book so I urge you to go to your local bookstore and just skim through the book. I guarantee that you’ll like what you see unless you’re a communist fascist bastard in which case you won’t be so amused by the book.
I give this book a rare 5 out of 5 !
